New boat, new site

March 9th, 2009 – 2:43 pm
Tagged as: New Mako

It is nearly the end of March and we have engaged in a little Spring Cleaning over here at Mako Charters.  Even though it is raining, cold and blowing a gale, fishing season is right around the corner.  I am really looking forward to this year as we have so much new stuff going on.

Many of you know that there will be a new MAKO this season.  Sunny Briggs and his crew are working away on her probably as you read this.  She will be 56′ with twin C18 Cats.  I won’t say how fast she is supposed to be - I don’t want to jinx it.  The new boat will have even better creature comforts than De Mako.  She will have that same great Carolina ride, too.  Watch out Wahoo, weather does not bother us on MAKO.  We are accepting charter bookings after May 15.  It will be ready by May 1 though, right Sunny?

Speaking of boats, De Mako the 57′ is moving oceans!  Yes, that is right, she is headed to the Pacific.  Together with MAKO, the two boats will form the basis of a new concept (at least to me) in sportfishing - the Black and Blue Fishing Club.  The concept is that members join the club a year at a time for a specified number of days.  You can choose to fish in Bermuda, Panama or Costa Rica.  In Costa Rica, you have the use of a Condo, if you do not live in Bermuda, you get the use of the house next to MAKO’s slip.  From a cost perspective, you cannot beat it.  We are doing well having members join and I am really excited about the Club.

Now never fear, MAKO in Bermuda will also be a regular charter boat and I have reserved days for that.  The Pacific boat will not take traditional charters.  If you like fishing in Bermuda (or Costa Rica, or Panama), I believe this is by far the best bargain out there.  Take a look: www.blackandbluefishing.com.

In addition to the new boat and setting up Black and Blue, I have also had a chance to fish in Costa Rica a few times.  It sure is fun to pitch bait those pacific sails and Marlin.  We are in the process of our annual tackle renewal which takes a lot longer than you would think.  I sometimes wonder how many miles of line I have wound onto reels in my life.  Since we were changing everything else, we updated the website, I hope you like it.

As you can imagine, both Peter and I are chomping at the bit to get the new ride and get fishing.  I hope you have an opportunity to fish with us this year.

See you soon,

Capt. Allen DeSilva

I like the new site, as always it is informative and has all the latest interesting news about the Boats and the fantastic fishing there in Bermuda (and now in the Pacific) . I was lucky enough to Fish in Bermuda a few years back and plan a trip in 2010. But where is that catchy tune “Kokomo” gone!
    Best Regards,
    Graham.

Allen, are you linked in any way to the boat “Murrula” I think spelling is correct. It was in service during the the 60’s.

Paul - did you get a reply? The Marula is what Allen’s father, Henry DeSilva called all his boats. I know Allen worked on most of them at one time.
