Captain Allen & Miss Nina
Bermuda Record Blue Marlin - 1,352 lbs.
Captain Allen DeSilva was born and raised in Bermuda and has fished there his whole life. Allen started fishing with his father at a very young age and has been on the water ever since! He obtained his captain’s license in 1976 at the age of twenty one and immediately started Mako Charters, fishing on board a 23ft Mako (Mako 1), the smallest charter boat in Bermuda. Over the years there have been six Mako’s. The current Mako, “Es Mucho!” is a 65ft. Hatteras, built in 2004.
In 1995, Captain Allen’s Mako 4 caught the present day Bermuda record Blue Marlin weighing in at 1,352 lbs, (the second largest Atlantic Blue Marlin ever caught). Captain Allen and the Mako team have caught many big marlins, including six over a thousand pounds – all of which have been released whenever possible.
Captain Allen has worked very closely with Dr. Eric Prince of the National Fisheries Center in satellite tagging Blue Marlins off of Bermuda. He has also worked with Dan Jacobs of Bonnier Corp. in setting up the now highly successful Big Game Classic fishing tournament, which is held every July in Bermuda. Captain Allen is an I.G.F.A. certified captain and the local representative for the Billfish Foundation.
